Tour Season: Back to the Stacks

a close up of a book shelf filled with books

The smell of old paper, leather, and glue fills my nostrils.  The spine of the book creaks and crackles (not unlike my own spine).

The Rhode Island Historical Society is a treasure trove hiding on the tree lined streets of the East Side.  Inside, hushed researchers turn carefully through papers and folders, shuttle through microfiche, and tab through the old card catalogue.

This is where it started.

Providence Ghost Tour was never a whim.  It was months and months of research before it ever emerged into the world, hours of trying to learn (and sometimes unlearn) the history that sculpted our city.

Over the past seventeen years, I’ve reviewed death records, diaries, and deeds to piece together the lives of the deceased.

Paranormal research typically first brings to mind people with fancy equipment, wearing black clothing, skulking around an old house or barn in dull night vision video.  In reality, much of it takes place in libraries and historical societies.  To understand the spirits, we must understand who they were and the world in which they lived.

The past allows us to know what was precious to a person, what they endured, what they feared.  Energies/entities/spirits/ghosts- whatever you want to call them, they are typically here because of an intense feeling, a significant connection that tethers them still to a world that has moved beyond their existence.

This year, I’ve committed to returning to the deep research that roots my tour.  Providence Ghost Tour has been and always will be a constant evolution, an unfolding of understanding.  Every Thursday, I will be seeking new knowledge and deeper understanding to better share the stories of the dearly departed and to better appreciate the hauntings with which they grace us.  This season, I’m back to the stacks.

Ghosties, tour season is upon us and I could not be more excited to share it with you.  Happy Hauntings.

Providence Ghost Tour kicks off it’s 2023 season on Saturday, March 25th at 7:30PM.  Tickets can be purchased at www.providenceghosttour.com.
